Learning Ballet as an Adult Beginner: Part 0
Currently on my Angelina Ballerina shit.
As if my feet aren't already mangled enough from navigating challenging terrain as an avid hiker and (former)* search and rescue canine handler in Hawaiʻi, I've decided to take up ballet as an adult.
I haven't felt this excited in a while. After spending the better part of the past eighteen months learning how to love myself, engaging in deep self-reflection, recovering from autoimmune alopecia without assistance from a healthcare provider (Kaiser Permanente is a shit stain on our society) and sorting through low self-confidence, low self-esteem, and low self-concept, I'm starting to feel confident in my femininity as someone who has long been deemed the resident "tomboy" by those around her. I'm also rehabbing a knee injury that's rendered me unable to hike for nearly four months and caused me to lose significant muscle mass in my legs. In honor of starting ballet as an adult, I'm documenting the process here on my blog.
I'll be posting ballet updates every Monday, starting today with Part 0 and with Part I. Part I will cover my goals for learning ballet as an adult and my understanding of the benefits of learning ballet as an adult. It'll also place my decision to take up ballet as an adult beginner within the greater context of my life.
*I've stepped down from search and rescue for now. I hope to return to it someday soon. My posts are not affiliated with any search and rescue operations in Hawaiʻi and my thoughts are all my own.
